The Organisation

Out of the Blue is a non profit organisation. A representative board is elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting in August each year. The board has seven members.

The Art of Hollywood has been contracted by the board to oversee the day to day operations of the organisation, chiefly in the areas of general management and artistic direction. The Art of Hollywood is represented by David and Romola Hollywood who have many years experience in arts management and theatre practice. The board also contracts mentors in key areas to enable Out of the Blue to aim for the highest standards in tuition and production.

History

Out of the Blue was established in August 1999 when a number of inspired individuals who had worked on a remarkable production of "West Side Story" decided to establish an ongoing vehicle for young people to develop their skills and share in the creation of work that aimed for the highest standards.

In a very short space of time, and under the guidance of David Hollywood, the organisation has established a reputation for excellence.

During our first full year of operation we have conducted a number of workshops in music theatre, circus skills and improvisation (theatresports style), as well as establishing Stageworks, which provides training for young actors. In April and May of 2000 we presented our inaugural production,Jesus Christ Superstar, at the Springwood Civic Centre and Parramatta Riverside Theatres followed by the Broadway Classic GYPSY at the Springwood Civic Centre in September.

In 2001 Out of the Blue developed its first original work - LIFE ON MARS - based on the early music of David Bowie. This production played in the Blue Mountains before touring to Sydney. Also in 2001 we presented a contemporary interpretation of the classic LES MISERABLES. This production featured a 33 piece orchestra, a cast of 90 and it played to packed houses in Springwood and at Panthers World of Entertainment.

The strength of an ensemble performance in our productions of INTO THE WOODS and GODSPELL in 2002
has given Out of the Blue's productions a vitality that is remarked upon by all who see one of our shows.

Membership

Become a member of Out of the Blue and be part of an enthusiastic team committed to supporting young talent and promoting interest in the performing arts.

Full membership is for all people who engage in productions with Out of the Blue either as performers or backstage

You can become an associate member and receive newsletters on a regular basis as well as discounts on tickets to our shows. All members can vote at the AGM in August each year.

Full membership is \\$25 for all performers. Associate membership is $10. All workshop participants automatically become members when they enrol.
